Foodie Adventures 2020: What to read, where to go, what to do

Whether 2020 will be filled with adventures close to home or far away there are plenty of good foodie events and destinations to explore. Here are a few piquing our interest to get your tastebuds primed.

USA – Events

The US is packed with more and more food-themed events each year and we couldn’t be happier about it. These are only a few that we are excited about.

Brooklyn Chocolate, Wine and Whiskey Festival

Three of my favorite things all under one roof! Artisan chocolate makers, over fifty wines, and whiskey to sip and sample. There will be plenty of savory items to try as well.
Date: March 7, 2020
Location: Brooklyn Expo Center, Brooklyn, NY

Epcot Food & Wine

Disney might not be the first place you think of when you consider a food and wine event, but do they do anything poorly? This annual event just keeps getting bigger and better. Not only do you get to experience the magic of Disney, but there are some amazing talks, demonstrations, and experiences that you can reserve space at. This already massive event is being extended to 87 days so check the schedule for speakers and opportunities to mingle that interest you and plan accordingly.
Dates: August – November, 2020
Location: Epcot, Bay Lake, Florida

LA Cookie Con & Sweets Show

Cookies on plate

If you follow all the baking hashtags on Instagram and marvel at the works of art coming out of ovens these days you will love this event. Touted as the West Coast’s largest sweets convention you are sure to run into some baking celebrities, learn a few tips and tricks, and of course sate your sweet tooth.
Dates: Feb 29 – Mar 1, 2020
Location: Fairplex Convention Center, Pomona, CA

International Destinations

The world is really a giant communal table when you use food as a form of communication and connection. We have had amazing dining and cooking experiences and we can’t wait to continue to meet new people, eat new dishes, and learn more about the world through the lens of food.

Georgia

Straddling European, Asian, and Middle Eastern influences, Georgia is a country of hospitality and a love of good food and wine. Speaking of wine, the origins of the regions date back over 8,000 years and most of it hasn’t been enjoyed outside the borders of the country. The food is gaining recognition but is still not as well known as it deserves to be.

Australia

Hahndorf Hill wine tasting

This is one of my all-time favorite spots on the planet, but it doesn’t get its fair share of attention for its culinary landscape. Not only does the country boast some top-notch dining destinations such as Sydney and Melbourne, but it offers unique and unforgettable culinary experience as well. Whether enjoying canapes on Kangaroo Island while a troop of roos hang out nearby or gathering around the barbie in the outback you will not be disappointed. And of course, the wine regions are a must-visit. Head to the Barossa Valley to experience small producers working together as well as iconic wineries such as Penfolds. Or wander through the beautiful Yarra or Hunter Valleys – you really can’t go wrong.

Mexico City

The past several years have seen a cultural revival of the culinary scene in Mexico City. Mexican cuisine is one that has been morphed and sometimes misunderstood in the US and the only way to taste the real soul of the cuisine is to go to the source. Not only will you find restaurants rated among the best in the world, but the street food scene is UNESCO-recognized as part of the country’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. And if you really want to immerse yourself in the cuisine consider taking one of the many top-notch cooking classes or food tours.

Cookbooks

Even when life doesn’t allow you to leave home base culinary exploration is never farther away than a good recipe. Here are a few of the new cookbooks coming out that will take your tastebuds on an adventure, expand your cooking repertoire, and prime you for when you can go farther afield.
