Around the Table November Edition

Lake Hopatcong fall views

November has been a doozy for us. We were supposed to close on our new house on November 14th and booked a two-week stay at a nice little lake house to get us through the two weeks between leaving MN and closing on our NJ house.

Well, let’s just say the 14th came and went and we are now two weeks into calling the Residence Inn Parsippany, NJ home. We can officially say the tiny house movement is not in our future. One bedroom, one bathroom, fold out couch bed for the kids, and no oven doesn’t cut it for me.

With all of this going on I’m still enjoying the move to NewJersey with several expeditions to little towns surrounding us, a trek with the kids into Central Park in NYC and trying a lot of local restaurants.

Local Love

We have been here about a month and have just fallen in love with the area. There is so much history to see and as someone who looks at something and wonders what the story behind it is I’m constantly daydreaming.

Daily we have passed this little diner. And every time I think, what is the story behind this once loved eatery that sits in an empty parking lot with peeling paint that probably once shone.

Abandoned diner NJ

Every day we pass through little towns founded in the 1700and 1800s. Yet we are still within easy commute into NYC for the energy and sites of the city. This is turning out to be the perfect spot for someone who loves history, needs access to country roads, and still needs to have access to a high-energy city. I know I’m complicated!

Wanderlust

Even though we are still exploring all the places in close proximity to our home we are always dreaming of other adventures a little farther afield.

A weekend trip to Philly might be in our future after reading about this updated food hall.  The Bourse building is a beautiful historic place that has been returned to a little bit of its former glory. Besides, it is near all of the major historic sites – the Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall, and Independence Hall. Great food and a little US History sounds like my perfect weekend.

I have also been wanting to go to Austin for years so I was so excited to see that I can get a taste of the Texas city in Brooklyn at Hill Country Food Park. Think Austin cool meets food theme park.

Food

November is really the kick-off to the food season, but rather than pumpkin pie and turkey I’ve been thinking of some different foods. Artisan chocolates, old world cookies, and hand packed teas have been on the menu as we work on curating the first B.I.T.E. Box. I know it is a hard job, but I promise I’m doing it all for you 🙂
